The rapid growth in the number of HarmonyOS devices is largely attributed to the strong sales of Huawei’s premium smartphones. In the first five months of 2024, sales of these smartphones surged by 72%, driven primarily by the success of the Mate 60 Pro, which features a 7-nanometer processor.

Huawei’s resurgence in the premium smartphone segment has led to significant market share gains, particularly in China. According to Counterpoint Research, Huawei’s smartphone sales in China grew by 69.7% year-over-year in the first quarter of 2024, while Apple’s sales dropped by 19.1% during the same period. This shift has positioned HarmonyOS as the second-largest mobile operating system in China, with a market share of 17.95% in the first quarter of 2024, surpassing Apple’s iOS.
