WWDC 2024 Focuses on Software Updates: No Hardware Announcements Made

The main highlights of WWCC 2024 were centered around substantial software updates and advancements in artificial intelligence. Apple introduced “Apple Intelligence,” a new AI system that enhances cross-app actions and improves the functionality of Siri, Apple’s digital assistant. Siri’s new capabilities include better cross-referencing of information and more effective task execution, which will be available across iPhone, Mac, and iPad devices.

Several operating system updates were announced, including WatchOS 11 for the Apple Watch, iPadOS 18 for the iPad, MacOS Sequoia for the Mac, and iOS 18 for the iPhone. These updates bring various improvements such as enhancements to iMessage, Maps, Safari, and new features like the ability to use an iPhone as a computer extension even when it’s in another room. iOS 18 also includes a redesigned Photos app, topographic maps and hiking trails in Maps, and a “tap to cash” option in Wallet.

Other notable announcements include the introduction of Genmoji, a feature that allows users to create custom emojis using natural search language within the new Image Playground feature. This will be accessible in various apps including Messages, Keynote, Pages, Freeform, and the Notes app.
