Since its launch in November 2022, ChatGPT has experienced exponential growth. The chatbot gained 1 million users within just five days of its launch and reached 100 million monthly active users in the first three months[1][3][5]. The platform’s market dominance is also evident, with ChatGPT accounting for 69.9% of the market share of subscription sales of AI tools as of January 2024. No other paid AI tool has more than 5.2% market share, solidifying ChatGPT’s position as the leading AI tool in the market[1].
Adoption and Usage
In addition to its consumer base, ChatGPT has seen significant adoption in the enterprise sector. According to OpenAI, 92% of Fortune 500 companies are now using its products, and the use of its automated Application Programming Interface (API) has doubled since the launch of GPT-4o mini in July 2024[2][4]. Developers are also heavily invested in ChatGPT, with 82% reporting regular usage and over 2 million developers using its API[3].
