The new Mac mini is expected to undergo its first major redesign since 2010. It will be significantly smaller, comparable in size to an Apple TV, while still incorporating an internal power supply, eliminating the need for an external power brick.
The new Mac mini will feature a significant upgrade in its port selection, offering a total of five USB-C ports. Two of these ports will be conveniently located on the front of the device, similar to the design of the Mac Studio, while the remaining three will be positioned at the rear. This shift away from the traditional USB-A ports means users will need to utilize adapters to connect their existing USB-A accessories.
The rear USB-C ports on the M4 model will support Thunderbolt 4, providing speeds of up to 40Gb/s. For the higher-end M4 Pro model, these ports will be upgraded to the latest Thunderbolt 5 technology, offering blazing-fast speeds of up to 120Gb/s. However, the front USB-C ports will be limited to the USB 3 standard, with a maximum speed of 10Gb/s.
In addition to the USB-C ports, the new Mac mini will retain other essential connectivity options, including an HDMI port capable of high-resolution output, a Gigabit Ethernet port, and a headphone jack. The device will also come with a dedicated power port, eliminating the need for an external power brick.
