One of the standout features of iOS 18 is the enhanced customization of the Home Screen, Lock Screen, and Control Center. Users will now have the ability to arrange app icons and widgets in any open space on the Home Screen, allowing for a more personalized layout. This includes placing apps and widgets above the dock or framing them around the wallpaper. Additionally, app icons and widgets can be customized with new “Dark” and “Tinted” effects, and users can make them appear larger for a streamlined look.

The Control Center has also been redesigned to be more flexible, allowing users to rearrange and resize controls across multiple pages. A new controls gallery will enable users to add various quick actions, including those from third-party apps. The Control Center can now be split into multiple screens, dedicated to different functions such as HomeKit, media playback, and connectivity.

The Messages app has received significant updates, including the ability to use any emoji as a Tapback reaction, new text effects like “Shake” and “Explode,” and formatting options such as bold and underline. Users can also schedule messages to be sent later and enjoy improved messaging with Android devices thanks to RCS support. The Mail app now sorts emails into categories using on-device intelligence, simplifying the inbox management process.
