Worldcoin Rebrands as “World”

The project, co-founded by Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, and Alex Blania, a former deep learning researcher at Caltech, has expanded its mission beyond its initial cryptocurrency focus. The rebranding to “World” emphasizes the project’s new emphasis on identity verification and human authentication.

Next-Generation Orb: Biometric Eye-Scanning Device
At the heart of this rebranding is the introduction of the next-generation Orb, a biometric eye-scanning device. The new Orb is powered by Nvidia’s Jetson chipset, which enhances its AI processing capability nearly five times compared to the previous version. This device is designed to scan human eyes to collect unique iris data, which is used to create a digital passport known as World ID.
