The new applied research laboratory is located in the Hetao Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Tech Cooperation Zone, a region developed to deepen tech partnerships between Shenzhen and neighboring Hong Kong. The facility spans 20,000 square meters (215,000 square feet) in its initial phase and is set to become Apple’s research and development hub in the Greater Bay Area, which includes Hong Kong, Macau, and nine cities in Guangdong province.

Capabilities and Objectives
The lab was announced in March and is designed to enhance testing and research for Apple’s major products, including the iPhone, iPad, and the Vision Pro spatial computing headset. It aims to bolster Apple’s testing and research capabilities and strengthen the company’s collaboration with local suppliers.
