Tesla Cybertruck Hit by Multiple Recalls: Camera Glitch and Drive Inverter Issues Affect Over 29,000 Vehicles

By Byte Staff Transportation

In September 2024, Tesla issued a recall for the Cybertruck due to an issue with the rear-view camera. The recall affected approximately 27,000 Cybertrucks and was related to delayed rearview camera images. This issue could potentially reduce the driver’s ability to see obstacles or other vehicles when reversing. Unlike the latest recall, this issue was not related to a hardware fault that required physical replacement but could be addressed through an over-the-air (OTA) software update.

Tesla is recalling 2,431 Cybertrucks built between November 6, 2023, and July 30, 2024, due to a fault in the drive inverter caused by malfunctioning metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistors (MOSFETs). This fault can result in a sudden loss of power and torque, increasing the risk of a crash. There is no warning prior to the loss of propulsion, but the vehicle will display a visual alert on the central screen instructing the driver to pull over safely. Tesla will begin replacing the faulty drive inverters starting around December 9, 2024.
