Apple Ring Patent Reveals Advanced Features Despite No Launch Plans

By Byte Staff Hardware

The latest patent application, which was filed earlier this year and published recently, describes a range of innovative features for the Apple Ring. The patent includes integration with Siri, Apple’s voice assistant, enabling users to interact with their Apple devices using voice commands through the ring.

The patent suggests that users could wear multiple rings, each with different functionalities, such as one focused on health monitoring and another optimized for voice-controlled assistant functions. Additionally, the patent describes a unique wireless charging system where one ring can charge another.

Health-related Sensors and Functions
The ring could include various health-related sensors such as an electrocardiogram sensor, a photoplethysmogram sensor, a temperature sensor, and an ultraviolet light sensor. This would allow the ring to monitor health metrics and transmit the data to a paired iPhone.

Gesture and Movement Control
The ring may also include an inertial measurement unit to detect gestures and movements, allowing users to control other Apple devices using pointing, touch, and force sensors, as well as haptic output devices for feedback.
